Hyderabad: Telangana State, which was a dream for many for decades and dismissed by its opponents as even remotely impossible, has not just become a reality but has emerged as a role model for other States in India, former Minister T Harish Rao has said. Addressing a gathering of Telangana Rashtra Samiti NRI Cell in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, Harish Rao said it was the vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao that has put the young Telangana State in a leadership position on many fronts
Harish Rao was the chief guest at a get together of TRS America cell in Tampa where he spent a little over three hours with the gathering of people from Telangana working and settled in the USA.
He said the policies and programmes implemented by the Chief Minister have brought a smile to the faces of farmers in the State, who for decades, were a neglected lot by the then governments. He also said the decisions taken by the Chief Minster for farmers’ welfare resulted in a drastic fall in the number of farmers taking their lives. “There was a time when farmer suicides were highest in Maharashtra’s Vidharba and in Telangana but from that situation. We have come a long way from that situation in Telangana where the State is poised to be one without farmers taking such extreme steps,” he said.
Harish Rao thanked the NRIs from Telangana for their unstinted support to the Statehood Movement and their continuing support to the government after the formation of the State. “Your contributions to Telangana will never be forgotten,” he said adding “being amidst people from the State in Tampa feels like I am at home.”
Thanking the TRS NRI cell for the warm reception, Harish Rao said it was a matter of pride that people from Telangana continue with traditions from home irrespective of the fact that they are far away from their native homeland. “It is very heartening to see that you have inculcated our traditional values and cultures in your children too,” he said.
