Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has been invited for a meeting being organised by Union Ministry of Water Resources at Shrama Shakthi Bhavan in Delhi on February 15. Chaired by Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari, the meeting will be attended by the Irrigation Ministers and officials from various States besides officials from Central Water Commission and NABARD. The meeting is likely to discuss on status of 99 priority irrigation projects scheduled to be taken up under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
Further, it will also deliberate on necessary funds for these projects and funds released in this regard through NABARD. The Centre has sanctioned 11 projects to Telangana State under PMKSY being taken up at a total cost of Rs 7,669 crore. While Rs 6,473 was the State share/NABARD loan, the Central government will provide financial assistance of Rs 1,196 crore for completion of these projects.
On the occasion, Harish Rao is likely to seek immediate release of funds from the Central government for speedy completion of irrigation projects taken up in the State under Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) and PMKSY. The State government has already requested the Centre to simplify system for project approvals, sanction and release of funds with fixed time frame, and also facilitate speedy release of loan amounts from NABARD.
