Hyderabad: In yet another round of attempts to spread false information over social media, detractors of the ruling party began a campaign targeting the Irrigation minister T Harish Rao trying to paint a picture that he was quitting the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) to join the BJP.
An annoyed Harish Rao called up the DGP M. Mahendar Reddy to request him to initiate criminal action against those responsible for the deliberate malicious campaign against him.
The vilification campaign began with an apparently morphed screenshot of a news channel with the so-called breaking news. Interestingly, the morphed image which had only half of the name of a news channel began circulating on WhatsApp from Thursday night. The irrigation minister condemned the campaign at a press conference and said his “political life began with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and it would end with it only”.
He told mediapersons that people with political motives were spreading false rumours about him quitting TRS. “Such misleading campaigns were conducted on social media earlier and those with ulterior motives did it again. But I want to make it clear once and for all that my loyalties remain with TRS and its President K Chandrashekhar Rao. I would not like to speak more on such baseless rumours,” he said.
The Irrigation Minister said though he had clarified earlier, the social media campaigners are trying to continue to create a rift in the party and hence, he decided not to react to such organisations which lack credibility. He had already requested DGP M Mahender Reddy to track down the imposters who morphed the logo of a vernacular news channel and posted fake news on social media alleging that Harish Rao was joining BJP. Necessary criminal action will be initiated against the imposters.
