Havildar from Guntur killed in landslide in J&K

The incident occurred when havildar Rafi Mohammed along two other army personnel were going in a vehicle, his elder brother Mohammed Arif said.

Hyderabad: A 32- year old army havildar from Guntur died in a landslide incident between Kargil and Leh in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when havildar Rafi Mohammed along two other army personnel were going in a vehicle, his elder brother Mohammed Arif said. While one person managed to escape after jumping out of the vehicle before it fell into a ditch, Rafi died in the incident.

Another person who was travelling in the vehicle is yet to be traced.

The mortal remains of Rafi of 608 EME Battalion will arrive at Vijayawada airport from New Delhi by Air India flight – AI 467 at 8 pm today. Thereafter, at night, the mortal remains will be moved by road to his home town for last rites.

The funeral will be conducted with full military honours at his native place at Chadole village in P. V. Palem in Guntur on Friday at 1pm, Army officials here said.
