Hyderabad: Controversies and confusion continue to haunt Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). Although the `annual genera body meeting’ (AGM) was held last month where a few important decisions were taken, there has been a total silence from the HCA’s CoA of Justice (retd) AR Dave, Justice (retd) G Seethapathy and Ratnakar Shetty. There is no official confirmation from the CoA whether they have ratified some of the decisions of the July 21 AGM or not.
One of the major decisions taken at the AGM with Anil Kumar, Shivlal Yadav and G Vinod being in the chair, was to appoint the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) as per the Justice Lodha Committee recommendations. The house had named former Test cricketers SL Venkatapathy Raju, MV Narasimha Rao and Purnima Rau as CAC members. The house also named the junior selection committee headed by Noel David with Abdul Azeem, Vivek Jaisimha, Rajesh Yadav and Shivaji Yadav as other members.
This decision ran into trouble as Raju, Narasimha Rao and Purnima demanded an official letter from HCA confirming their appointment. But there is no letter from the association as yet. According to reports the CoA was not happy with the way the AGM was conducted on July 21. Incidentally, `acting’ president Anil Kumar submitted the minutes of the meeting. So did `secretary’ Sheshnarayan. This led to further confusion.
But this has created a cloud of uncertainty as the new national domestic season will begin from September with the commencement of the one-day tournament. The CAC was to appoint coaches for various teams, including the senior team, and the selection committee. With no sign of CAC being formed in near future, this has led to uncertainty.
According to a club secretary, there is an impasse in the HCA. “We are all confused. We don’t know who will appoint the coach and senior selectors or for that matter whether the CoA has approved the July 21 AGM. There should be some official confirmation. In fact, aware of the infighting among the members, one of the CoA members should have attended the meeting or could have declared the meeting null and void. This continued silence has added the confusion.’’
The club secretary went on to add in the last meeting most of the senior members/cricketers came with personal agendas not looking into the improvement of the game in HCA. “Then how can they pass the two annual financial statements with simple yes and not even bothering to go through the statements which have lots of irregularities. They even hastily announced the junior selection committee and even raised their annual remunerations. This is shameful.’’
This is not good for the game. The cricketers are suffering badly. Luckily, unlike last season, local leagues are being conducting and this has helped the cricketers in a big way.
Meanwhile, for the second successive year, the Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament would not be held. The blue riband tournament of the country, which was considered as first class tournament till the 70s, has been a thing of the past. In fact the disappearance of the Gold Cup itself remains a mystery. This in itself tells the HCA story in a nutshell.
