Hyderabad: With catchment areas of Manair, Penganga, Kaddam and Pranahitha rivers, the tributaries of river Godavari receiving heavy floods due to rains, the projects in Godavari basin also started filling up at a faster pace. At the multi-stage Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), these added inflows helped the engineers to shut down pumping from Medigadda and are operating only pumps at Annaram and Sundilla.

The water level at Medigadda (Lakshmi) barrage on Tuesday is 98.2 metres against a full reservoir level (FRL) of 100 metres. There is 12.5 tmc water available in the 16.17 tmc capacity reservoir. Over 40,000 cusecs of water have been discharged downstream by lifting 35 gates out of 85 gates of the barrage.a

“No pumps are in operation at the Kannepalli pump house of Medigadda as discharges from Manair and Penganga are flowing into Annaram (Saraswathi) barrage. Hence, only 7 pumps out of the 8 eight at the Siripuram (Annaram) pump house are operated lifting 20,000 cusecs of water. The levels in Annaram are satisfactory with 181.4 metres of water in the reservoir which has an FRL of 119 metres,” Ramana Reddy, Superintending Engineer of KLIS, told Telangana Today. The Annaram barrage is holding 8.8 tmc of water out of its maximum capacity of 10.87 tmc.

At the Sundilla (Parvathi) barrage water level is 127.8 metres out of an FRL of 130 metres. The barrage is holding 7 tmc of water out of a maximum capacity of 8.83 tmc. Seven pumps of 40 MW capacity out of the nine pumps at the Goliwada pump house are in operation pumping 20,000 cusecs of water. On the other hand, water lifted from these pump houses is released into the Link IV reservoirs of Anantagiri, Ranganayak Sagar and Kondapochamma Sagar and then into a network of canals.

The inflow at Kaddam reservoir built on Kaddam river, a tributary to Godavari has been steady. The water level is 695.41 ft, available quantum of water is 6.46 tmc out of the 7.60 tmc capacity reservoir. Inflow is 754 cusecs and outflow is 851 cusecs. In Nizamsagar on Manjira river, the water level is 1,377.13 ft and also in Singur on Manjira, the water level is 1,682.91 ft. At Sripada Yellampalli, the inflow is 27,612 cusecs and outflow is 16,731. Water level at Yellampalli is 471.69 ft and the project is holding 1.28 tmc of water out of the total capacity of 20.18 tmc. At the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP), the water level is 1,074 ft, and water in storage is 38.77 tmc. While inflow is 8,345 cusecs and outflow is 5,655 cusecs from the project.
