Smart ways to steal a car
The keyless entry system might not be something you count on for the safety of your car from now on. For these Malaysian thieves, stealing your vehicle is just a few minute’s task. It seems like thieves have ditched the whole ‘uncouth bandit’ image, and have evolved with the technology to gets things done.
These hi-tech Malaysian thieves are now hiring professional hackers to instal the software onto their laptops and teach them how to operate the device which is used to hack into the vehicle. The device costs around RM50 which is approximately Rs 17 in Indian currency and it can be purchased online or any electronic stores in Malaysia. It can unlock the car and start its engine by hacking its Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) information.
It is identified that the thieves use two approaches to hack into the system. One is as mentioned above, by purchasing the radio frequency hacking device and then attack the system, tricking it to respond to the rolling code.
Once the device captures the rolling code, the car can be unlocked.
The second method is by using a gadget that can be used to eavesdrop and the steal the rolling code. Once the car is unlocked, there is no key needed to start the engine.
So, what can you do to ensure your vehicle’s safety? Well, experts suggest installing GPS tracking devices in your vehicles or just get back to the old manual keys and locks.
Breakthrough in a murder investigation
Apple’s health application confirms cops’ theories on convict’s movements while committing the crime
In a bizarre turn of events, iPhone’s health app has played a major role in a murder investigation. Hussein K was put on trial for the rape and murder of a teenager last year. While police were struggling to fill the gaps in the story told by the defendant, the health app on his phone gave a major breakthrough to the investigators.
Though the German authorities took Hussein K into custody as he already admitted his involvement, the details of the murder remained obscure. When Hussein refused to give the pin code of his iPhone to the police, the authorities outsourced the task to a Munich-based security firm to hack into his device.
It is a well-known fact that iPhone’s health application has the ability to track a user’s daily steps and other physical activity. Well, it is this application which helped investigators to prove their theories right regarding the murder.
The data retrieved from the app showed the exact time of the day when he was busy climbing the stairs on the day of the murder. As the time reportedly fits perfectly, police believe that victim was dragged down a flight of stairs to a nearby river and was drowned.
Well, this is not the only case where technology came to the rescue. Today’s surveillance cameras and fitbits are proving to be a major helping hand for authorities. Hear hear! Technology for the win!
