Hyderabad: Unlike in the past, various collaborations were happening in the animation industry these days, which was encouraging creators to showcase their work, said Rajiv Chilaka, CEO of the city-based Green Gold Animations and creator of one of India’s most loved animation characters Chhota Bheem.
Speaking on his Mighty Little Bheem at the Desi Toons event as part of Indiajoy 2019 here, Rajiv Chilaka said Netflix encouraged their team a lot in re-designing Chhota Bheem to Little Bheem. “We re-created everything in this animated series right from the character.
Initially, we wrote concepts and later developed them into scripts,” he said. The non-verbal Mighty Little Bheem is Netflix’s first animated series from India and the fourth spin-off of Chhota Bheem series, following Mighty Raju, Arjun – Prince of Bali and Super Bheem.
Launched on April 12, the series has 21 short videos (5 to 6 minutes each). In 2016, after the launch of Netflix in India, Aram Yacoubian, Director of Kids and Family Content at the US streaming service, met Chilaka and agreed on a series that would target the age group of 6-11.
“When we met Netflix in 2016 on airing Chhota Bheem on their platform, they asked us to come up with fresh content and a new version using the Bheem character. We worked for around two years to bring out Mighty Little Bheem,” Chilaka said.
As Netflix was a popular online streaming platform across the globe, it was challenging to create Mighty Little Bheem on par with international standards and it became successful, he added.
