Hyderabad: DK Aruna, former Congress Minister and senior party leader who in a surprise late night move on Tuesday joined BJP, said her decision was prompted because of collusion between Telangana’s Congress leaders with TRS, which saw Congress getting decimated in the State.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Aruna on Wednesday said Congress became very weak in Telangana. “This is because of the party leaders in the State,” she said, adding “it is only BJP which had the potential to emerge as the alternative to TRS.”
She was accompanied by Telangana BJP president Dr K Laxman and senior BJP leader Muralidhar Rao.
Aruna said she believes that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi was capable of protecting the country, and this influenced her decision to join the party. “I will work for BJP’s success in Telangana in the Lok Sabha elections,” she said.
Criticising TRS, she said: “The ruling party in Telangana came back to power by fooling people and making false promises. TRS murdered democracy in Telangana”. Incidentally, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said Aruna was asked to contest the Lok Sabha elections, but she refused to do so.
Laxman said BJP will become stronger with Aruna joining the party. “She joined BJP as she is tired of opportunistic politics practised by Congress in Telangana,” he said.
