Hyderabad: A 20-year-old BTech student allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her residence in Suraram under the Dundigal police station limits.

According to police, the incident occurred around 3 pm on Wednesday but came to light only when the family informed police around 9 pm.

K Sai Durga Mounika was a fourth year student at a private engineering college in the city. “She hanged herself when her family members were away from home,” said M Pavan, Sub-Inspector, Dundigul.

Mounika’s mother, A Renuka, was staying with her daughter and son after her husband’s death at her brother’s house in Suraram.

“Whenever she was scolded, she would talk of suicide. Her uncle said whenever he tried to correct her, she used to be adamant and in return threatened him of killing herself either by consuming sleeping pills or hanging herself,” the SI said.

Mounika’s uncle, A Krishna, said he had gone to meet Mounika’s mother on Wednesday and it was then that he found her body hanging to the ceiling.

Dundigul police said the girl’s posts on her Instagram account too indicated that she was depressed with life.
