Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested city-based Soma Enterprises Limited’s Director PR Rao after he, his company representative Dinesh Chand Gupta and section officer with Ministry of Home Affairs Dheeraj Kumar Singh were booked for allegedly offering a bribe of Rs 2 crore to CBI Deputy Inspector General Asra Garg.

According to the FIR, a case was booked against them under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act along with Section 120B (Criminal Conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. The bribe was offered for settling a matter being dealt by the CBI in favour of the company. In his complaint, Garg, who is the head of ACB, Delhi unit, said Dheeraj had brought and introduced Dinesh to him. Both Dheeraj and Dinesh told him that an enquiry was being conducted against the company by CBI and sought Garg’s help to settle the matter.

Dheeraj again contacted Garg and offered to pay Rs.2 crore. To verify Garg’s version, the CBI asked Garg to contact Dheeraj on his mobile phone on speaker mode and recorded the conversation. After the call, Garg met Dheeraj and Dinesh on Lodhi Road in New Delhi in a vehicle. Dinesh later narrated about the company’s matter that needed to be settled. Dinesh said he came on behalf of the company and that the company chairman was aware of the meeting. He also offered to pay Rs.10 lakh as advance.

Following a request from Garg, Dinesh made a call to company director Rao and made him speak while putting the phone on speaker mode. Rao confirmed that Dinesh came on his behalf. The entire conversation between Garg, Dinesh, Dheeraj and Rao was recorded, after which the case was booked.
