Hyderabad: The video of a lady doctor from the city, who had tested positive for Covid-19, complaining about the treatment she was meted out in a city hospital has gone viral on social media.

In the video, the doctor, identified as Dr. A Sultana, who works at the Government Fever Hospital, Nallakunta, alleges that the management of Thumbay New Life hospital at Chaderghat confined her in a room and misbehaved with her on Saturday when she did not agree to pay the huge bill, which she says was over and above the Rs.1.9 lakh which she had already paid for just three days of treatment after getting admitted on July 1. The hospital was demanding charges of Rs.1 lakh per day, following which she had decided to get discharged, she says.

The doctor has also written a complaint addressed to the Chaderghat Inspector reporting about the incidents during her stay at the hospital. However, the Chaderghat police denied receiving any complaint.

“After the video surfaced on social media, we checked the footage recorded by the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital. An enquiry was conducted regarding the incident. However, no complaint has been lodged in the police station,” the Chaderghat police said.

On the other hand, the hospital management has alleged that the patient had misbehaved with the staff and did not allow them to examine her from time to time. “She misbehaved with us and locked the door from inside. We had informed the Chaderghat police on Saturday itself. Later, she wanted us to discharge her and we did,” said Dr Abdullah Saleem, pulmonologist and consultant at the hospital.

On the bill, Dr Saleem said the hospital management had already informed the patient all the expenses for getting admitted in a deluxe ward in the hospital.

According to Fever Hospital Superintendent Dr K Shankar, the woman doctor had tested positive four days ago and since then was in home isolation. She was informed that the State government had made special arrangements for all Covid warriors. “The doctor got herself admitted at a private hospital without any intimation,” Dr. Shankar said.

Later, when the incident gained a lot of traction across various social media outlets, senior doctors from Fever Hospital visited the private hospital at Chanderghat and sorted out the payment issue. The senior woman doctor was discharged and is under home isolation now.
