Hyderabad: Over 15000 Jains participate in Maha Paryushana Parv

The culmination of the phase has the Jains acknowledging mistakes they committed during the year and seek forgiveness.

Hyderabad: Over 15,000 Jains participated in the closing ceremony of eight day ‘World Forgiveness day (Maha Paryushana Parv)’ on Saturday. During the festival period, the participants adopts an austere lifestyle and strives toward self-purification through fasting and sacrifice and even shun eating fresh and leafy vegetable to avoid possibility of killing micro-organism.

Jains shunned lavish lifestyle, using mobile phones, went on fasting, practiced simple living, stayed away from going to movies, fed the grass to the cows, avoid using vehicles and walked barefoot, said Praveen Rishi Upadhyaya, Jain Monk.

Swaroop Chand Kothari, president, Anandthirth Dharam Sangh said “Entire community strives towards self-purification through fasting and sacrifice. They shun eating fresh and leafy vegetables to avoid killing microorganisms. They stop eating food in the night, use only boiled water, do prayer pratikaman in the morning and evening”.
