Hyderabad: Shamshabad police on Friday arrested a 24-year-old person for allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old girl in Pedda Shapur.

“The issue came to light when the baby was aborted,” police said, adding that Rangareddy District Child Protection Officer A Devender Reddy had on Friday lodged a complaint with the police seeking necessary action. In the complaint, Reddy said the girl was a Class VIII student in a government school. The suspect identified as Sunny, a resident of Pedda Shapur, allegedly lured the girl and on the pretext of love and exploited her sexually.

“Sunny, who learnt that the girl was pregnant, somehow managed to get her admitted in a hospital in Shamshabad, where the pregnancy was aborted three days ago,” Reddy said.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act. “The hospital staff will also be booked for aborting the pregnancy of a minor girl,” said K Uma Maheshwar Rao, Inspector, Shamshabad.
