Heavy rush in Metro, 2.26 lakh paid passengers travelled on Friday

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail continues to break its own record in terms of patronage.

After registering 2.25 lakh footfalls on New Year bash, Metro Rail on Friday recorded 2.41 lakh footfalls as the Sankranti festive rush increased drastically.

The footfall on Friday included 2.26 lakh paid passengers who travelled in the Metro creating a new record of sorts. With several inter-district buses being operated from LB Nagar, Uppal, Nagole and other areas, many commuters preferred Metros to reach their respective boarding points, said HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy.

With many passengers, specially those hailing from Andhra Pradesh heading for their hometowns for the festival, heavy rush was witnessed in Miyapur, JNTU, Kukatpally Housing Board, Ameerpet, Secunderabad and LB Nagar stations.

Over 16,000 passengers boarded the Metros at Miyapur and Kukatpally Housing Board stations. The highest number of passengers, 21549, was registered at Ameerpet station.
