Hyderabad: In a tragic turn, the body of Sumedha, the 11-year-old girl who was reported missing from her house at Santoshi Matha Colony in Neredmet on Thursday, was found in a nala on Friday afternoon.

Sumedha, a Class Six student in a private school in Neredmet, was reported missing on Thursday night, after which the police and the GHMC formed five special teams including one Disaster Response Force team and took up search operations.

The police had found CCTV footage of the child riding a bicycle in her colony. The cycle, however, was found on Friday morning, in a nala at Kakatiya Nagar.

The DRF personnel, who excavated the nala with a proclainer, finally found the body at a point where the nala connects with Banda Cheruvu, a water-body, around 1 pm. This was a little downstream from where the bicycle was found, the Neredmet police said, adding that they suspect the child could have accidentally slipped into the nala and got washed away due to the heavy rains on Thursday.

The body has been shifted to the Gandhi Hospital morgue for autopsy and further investigation is on.
