Hyderabad: With the Met department forecasting heavy rains during the next 48 hours, an emergency convergence meeting is underway at the GHMC Head office.

Officials from GHMC, Water Board, traffic, electricity and other departments are participating in the meeting to discuss measures to be taken for effective relief measures and avoid life and property loss.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said a team was already conducting damage assessment following the heavy rains since last night.

Water Board MD Dana Kishore said an emergency control room with 9989996948 was established at the Khairatabad Head office. He said instructions have been issued to all senior officials to monitor the sewer lines and inspect the manhole covers. A team of officials along with mini and heavy jetting machines have been arranged at GHMC for taking up relief and rescue operations in coordination with water board. Emergency teams works have been extended by one more week and chlorine tablets are being distributed in slums to avoid any water contamination, he added.

Hyderabad Collector Yogita Rana and Additional Commissioner Traffic Ravinder are participating in the meeting.

Motorists have been advised not to take the Jubilee Hills check post and Banjara Hills road as water from KBR Park was overflowing onto the road.
