Hyderabad: City-based startup Radikal Tribe, which created the RTA M-wallet app, is looking to increase its scope by adding more transport related services. The app, launched three years ago, has been downloaded more than 30 lakh times.

Using this, close to 58.9 lakh driving licenses and registration certificates have been downloaded by the users, according to its co-founder Rudra Teja.

“We have made presentations to the Hyderabad Metro Rail as well as to the RTC authorities showcasing capabilities of M-wallet to act as a single ticketing gateway. Integrating the metro rail ticket with M-wallet will result in cutting the expenses incurred in making the smart card and tokens,” he said.

According to him, the Hyderabad metro rail authorities are spending close to Rs 40-50 creating each smart card. “The same technology that is used in the smart card is available in the mobiles. Integrating the metro rail smart card with the mobile will help in reducing operational costs. Users will have one less card to carry,” he said.

There is also scope to add Ola, Uber, Rapido and other transport related services. “The platform is safe. The payment gateway can be used for making payments. The data will continue to remain with the respective agencies as is not stored with company,” he said adding that if somebody loses the mobile, they can block access to the app through the customer care centre.

The RTA m-wallet app, made for the Telangana Transport Department, shot into limelight after it provided digital alternative to driving licence, insurance, registration certificates and other vehicle related documents. The same can be produced before the police during vehicle checks. Doing this, it addressed a big pain point – of carrying multiple documents while driving a vehicle to avoid penalties.

As of today, it RTA m-wallet has more than 28.9 lakh registrations. So far, 22.7 lakh driving licences have been downloaded and about 36.2 registration certificates. The total document downloads is 58.9 lakh, he said.
