Hyderabad: The Uppal police on Saturday arrested N Naveen Kumar, 27, the principal and partner of a private school in Bharatnagar on charges of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl student of the school. According to the police, the incident took place three days ago and came to light after the victim informed her parents on Friday evening.

The girl had told her parents that she was sexually harassed by Naveen Kumar, a resident of Peerzadiguda, and who runs the private school, Jyoshi Vidya Mandir. Though the parents approached the principal the next day, it is learned, he and the management refused to speak to them.

On Friday evening, the victim had informed her parents that three days ago she was sexually harassed by the school principal inside the campus premises. On the next day morning, parents had approached the principal to find out the facts, which didn’t work out as the management reportedly refused to speak.

This led to the parents and the girl’s relatives, later joined by student organisations, staging a protest in front of the school, demanding the arrest of the principal and closure of the school.

The protest, which was called off after the police intervened, was followed by the parents lodging a complaint with the police, who have registered a case under various sections of the IPC, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the SC/ST Atrocities Act. “Efforts on to verify the facts,” said Y Narsimha Reddy, Inspector, Uppal.
