Hyderabad: Three more post-graduate (PG) medicos from Osmania Medical College (OMC) tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. With this, the number of OMC medicos who contracted the virus has increased to seven.
The detection of fresh infections has prompted authorities to test all 280 PG medicos who are residing in the hostels on the college campus. All the Covid-hit students also stayed in the same hostels.
“We will conclude the coronavirus diagnostic tests on all PG medicos residing in our hostels in a day or two. Apart from that, we have also taken up disinfection of the hostels. District surveillance teams are in the process of figuring out the source of the infection,” says Principal, OMC, Dr Shashikala Reddy.
The district surveillance officials said a woman gynaecology PG who was posted at Government Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj, might have contracted the virus while handling a Covid-19 positive pregnant woman. The roommate of the gynaecology PG medico in the hostel also tested positive. Doctors suspect that all the other PG medicos who tested positive must have got infected within the OMC campus.
