Hyderabad: If all goes as per plan, the long cherished dream of the city to have an Urdu Language Research Centre will soon be fulfilled. Thanks to the Telangana State Urdu Academy, which is working to set up the centre and throw it open for research scholars by June this year.
Prof SA Shukhoor, Director, Telangana State Urdu Academy, said the groundwork for the proposed centre researching in Urdu has already begun. “We are in the process of identifying the manuscripts and books which need to be housed in the library at the research centre,” he said.
The Urdu Academy has several books and manuscripts in Urdu and plans are being drawn to collect more from different sources, including bringing from other libraries, he said.
The proposed facility will help research scholars find Urdu-related manuscripts, literature, old books and other material at one place. “Several scholars who are carrying out research on the language will benefit through the move,” he said.
The Academy has identified the Urdu Maskaan building, popularly known as Salar-e-Millat Auditorium, at Khilwat in the old city to set up the research centre.
Officials said they have already started identifying the material for the library and the various sources from where these can be procured. The other works related to infrastructure will begin after the necessary budget allocations for the project, they added.
