Hyderabad: The city is home to over 80 per cent of consumers ordering Haleem this Ramzan via the food app Swiggy, a statement issued by the Bengaluru-based startup said on Tuesday.
Moreover, Hyderabadis ordered 2.5 times more haleem this Ramzan on Swiggy vis-a-vis last year, the company said.
Bengaluru and Chennai follow the city in haleem orders, but both are behind by a huge margin. Going by the data generated from the app, the city takes away the biggest chunk of haleem orders in India.
Swiggy also said that in Ramzan, haleem orders went up 95 per cent, compared to the rest of the year. While haleem is a traditional meat-based delicacy prepared primarily in Hyderabad and in Ramzan, other cities also find the dish popular, and some restaurants cook the dish year-round.
Swiggy also said that the number of restaurants selling haleem on the app were doubled in 2018, compared to 2017. The average weekly orders also jumped 100 per cent as compared to last, it said.
Banjara Hills, Kondapur, Madhapur, Pragathi Nagar and Nizampet were the areas ordering the most amount of haleem on the app, Swiggy said. From its special Iftar menus, haleem was the second most popular dish, next only to Biryani, the company said.
