Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, participating in the third edition of the Festival of Innovation at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, has showcased various projects by its Design Innovation Centre, including one to recreate the history and culture of Telangana through virtual reality animation and one on digital preservation of monuments including the Qutb Shahi Tombs.

The project on ‘Preservation of Culture through Animation’ aims to recreate the history and culture of Telangana through Virtual Reality Animation, take the viewers through a unique interactive experience of 360-degree animation and to preserve the culture of Telangana through the medium of animation film, a release from the Institute said. The project mainly aims at preserving the oral history of the Qutb Shahi period through a 360-degree virtual reality animation, virtually depicting the stories in the form of animation.

The project on Digital Preservation of Monuments aims at documenting, preserving and conserving historical monuments. It looks at translating the physical experience of people visiting these monuments into a digital medium and recreate a digital experience as good as the original physical experience of the monuments. The project also looks at creating a knowledge base for the future, parallelly communicating the form, style, design, culture and history to next generation. Currently, this project is working on digitising the experience for Qutb Shahi tombs and the Brahma temple.

The Festival of Innovation aims at recognising, fostering and rewarding young innovators and creating a vibrant ecosystem that enables them to thrive. The Institute also presented projects on ‘Design for Education’, which aims to introduce design subjects in schools as part of the pedagogy and include the teaching of theory and application in the design of products, services and environments, the release said.
