Improved water levels may up Rabi acreage

Minister directs official to ensure problem-free, productive cultivation.

Nalgonda: Power and SC Development Minister G Jagdish Reddy has instructed officials to ensure that farmers do not face any problems in the ongoing rabi season.

Attending the Zilla Parishad general body meeting as chief guest, Reddy said acreage could increase in the rabi season in view of the availability of water in tanks and improvement in the groundwater level. He also directed the officials of Transco to ensure nine hours of power supply to the farmers.

On depositing the third installment of the crop loan waiver amount into farmers’ account, Reddy said it might be delayed as the banks were busy with demonetisation.

Congress Legislative Party deputy leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had raised the issue of non-deposit of the amount, which was released by the government. He has also directed the officials concerned to sort out the problems with the bankers.

Reddy said the State government was encouraging cashless transactions to resolve the problems created by demonetisation. He exhorted elected representatives of the local bodies to create awareness among the public on doing digital.

Underlining the need to make the Haritha Haram programme a success, he said officials and elected representatives should take care and ensure that the samplings planted under Phase I and II are protected.

Referring to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s announcement of Rs 1,000 pension to single women in the State, he said it would benefit more than three lakh women in the State.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Jana Reddy said pending wages of NRGS job card holders should be cleared immediately as there has been a delay of three months now. He also expressed displeasure over lack of district plan and statics regarding welfare schemes and development projects in the agenda copy of ZP general body meeting.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that only 30 percent of the amount of the crop loan waiver, which was released by the government as third installment, was deposited in the bank accounts of the farmers in the district.

Government Whip Gongidi Sunitha, Zilla Parishad Chairman Balu Naiak, Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukender Reddy, MLAs N Bhasker Rao, Ravindra Kumar Naik, Gadari Kishore and Vemula Veeresham, Nalgonda district Collector Gaurav Uppal, Yadadri-Bhongir district Collector Anitha Ramachandram, Suryapet district Collector K Surendra Mohan among others attended the meeting.
