Kothagudem: The increasing number of covid-19 cases has been causing panic among public and officials alike in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, which was a green zone district until recently.
The total number of active coronavirus positive cases reached 25 on Monday and the majority of the cases were reported during the last fortnight. No coronavirus positive case was reported after March 24 in the district and after 70 days of gap, a nurse was infected with the virus on June 6.
District Collector MV Reddy held a review meeting with the district medical and revenue officers, municipal chairmen and commissioners and MPDOs at the collectorate on Monday on the measures to be taken to contain the spread of the virus.
He informed that all the primary and secondary contacts of the persons infected with the virus were kept in home quarantine. The health officials were directed to check those persons twice in a day whether they were following quarantine rules or not.
Steps like setting up control rooms at municipalities, installing barricades at containment zones and their sanitisation, preventing crowding at family celebrations and awareness programmes at village level have to be taken up, the Collector told the officials.
He appealed to the people to ensure social distances and follow covid-19 guidelines.
Business hours reduced
Meanwhile, Kothagudem Chambers of Commerce and Trade office bearers have taken a voluntary decision to bring down business hours and close the shops by 5 pm in the evening in order to contain the spread of coronavirus. A similar decision was also taken by Paloncha Chambers of Commerce and Trade.
The increase in the number of covid-19 positive cases in the district has been attributed to the recent visit of a senior Congress leader of Hyderabad to the district. He visited Kothagudem, Paloncha and Bhadrachalam and met many people. He was tested positive after he went back to the city.
