Hyderabad: The Indian Police Martyrs Memorial Run-2017 will be held at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road here on October 15.
Speaking to the media after launching T-shirts and medals for the event here on Thursday, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma said the event would have 2K, 5K and 10K runs and a medal would be given to all registered participants who complete the run.
A Police Expo is also being organised from October 14 to 16 at Prasad’s IMAX grounds, Necklace Road, in which various police organisations, both Central and State Police, will showcase their departments, weapons, and police equipment.
Sharma recalled that during the 2014 DGPs Conference in Guwahati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pointed out the lack of recognition for police martyrs and stressed the need to communicate the sacrifices made in the line of duty through various media to reach the people.
In this regard, the Union Home Ministry has launched a website in which the good works of the police were uploaded by all the States regularly.
“People must be informed about the difficult circumstances under which a police officer performs his duties,” Sharma said and called for awareness on the work done by various police related forces on the international borders to protect the country and also for upholding law and order for citizens.
The DGP requested the people to participate in the Police Run in big numbers and encourage the families of the martyrs and support them.
SP Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director, SLN Terminus, handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the DGP in support of the Memorial Run.
