India has gone through so many hardships, not just the country but people in her as well. People may think that independence is only for a country, a State or a community. You will rarely see a person who tells you that independence is freedom not only to large communities of people, but it can also be freedom to just one person, or one living organism. When we were under British rule, people would only think of the political rule in India. They would think we were not happy just because foreigners were ruling our country, but of course, no one but we Indians know the true suffering, we were not just fighting for political rule, but for the right to education, the right to make our own choices for our political governance and above all, for the right to live the way we want to.
Even after the independence of the nation, we have almost fought a war for individual independence. And this emancipation is not from the clutches of a foreign nation but often from our surroundings. We desire to be free, we yearn for independence. Independence for me is freedom that satisfies your desires to become a stronger person and yet does not separate us from our values and morals. It is a sense of individuality with responsibility that empowers us to speak our minds and free ourselves from ignorance. It is being at peace as much as it is possible to me by understanding and respecting the boundaries of myself. For me independence is pursuing a life of peaceful endeavors while being accountable for what we do. To me, independence means freedom to express yourself and to use that freedom to improve, learn, and experience everyday living.
