Sangareddy Collector M Hanumantha Rao presents a sapling to OSD to Chief Minister Priyanka Varghese during a meeting in Sangareddy on Wednesday.

Sangareddy: Industries in Sangareddy district have line up Rs 14 crore this year to protect saplings to be planted under ‘Telangana Ku Haritha Haram’ (TKHH) as part of Harita Dattata (adoption of saplings) programme.

During a review meeting with representatives of industries and officials, Priyanka Varghese, OSD to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, instructed officials to assign one mandal or municipality to each industry that comes forward to support TKHH. These industries will spend Rs 12.94 crore in 25 mandals.

The district administration has also entrusted the job of avenue plantation in five of the eight municipalities to industries, which will spend Rs 1.74 crore on avenue plantation. Since the district administration is yet to find donors for working on TKHH in Tellapur, Ameenpur and IDA Bollaram municipalities, the job has been assigned to respective Municipal Commissioners.

As the rainy season has commenced, Varghese said collective effort should be made to make the mass plantation drive a great success this year. To improve the survival rate of saplings, the administration has decided to involve industries, who will have to take the responsibilities of the plantation, placing of tree guards and watering them regularly.

Collector M Hanumantha Rao directed the officials to identify the vacant lands in villages and municipalities to take up the plantation drive. He further asked them to take up avenue plantation along all the roads across the district. The administration would honour three best villages or municipalities for their work on Independence Day.
