Warangal Urban: Warangal Commissonerate Task Force police in coordination with Hasanparthy police arrested two members of an inter-State gang of ganja smugglers and seized 320 kg of processed ganja worth Rs 32 lakhs from them on Saturday.
The arrested were identified as Shaik Sohail of Nagaram locality in Nizamabad and Mohammad Saddam alias Shaik of Millat Nagar of Nanded district in Maharastra State. Another accused, who is absconding, was identified as Mohammad Unis of Degluru nakha of Maharashtra.
Disclosing the details of the arrest, police commissioner V Ravinder said that all the three became friends as they were working as the car drivers. “They were habituated to liquor consumption and other bad habits. Since the income earned as the drivers is not sufficient to meet their demands, they planned to earn easy money by smuggling the ganja considering high demand for it in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh States,” the commissioner said and added that the members had purchased ganja from a person in Vishakapatnam. It is said that the accused had taken luxury car for rent as they thought that they hoodwink the police.
The processed ganja was packed in four and two kg packets and put in the car. “When the task force police received specific information about the ganja smuggling, they along with Hasanparthy police conducted vehicle check and found the ganja in the car near Yellapur bridge on Warangal-Karimngar highway,” the commissioner said, adding that the accused had confessed to the police that they had been in smuggling ganja for some time. “They also said that one of the members Mohammad Unis got off the vehicle midway due to personal work,” the CP said.
Commissioner Ravinder appreciated Task Force Inspectors Nandiram Naik, Tirumal, Hasanparthy Inspector Sridhar Rao, Head Constables Shyamsunder and the constables for arresting the ganja smugglers.
