Hyderabad: Consumer electronics major, Intex Technologies is positively looking at setting up a manufacturing unit in Telangana and has been in talks with the government for the same.
The company is looking to invest Rs 400-500 crore in the plant where in it will be producing mobile phones and LED TVs.
“The southern market is a major contributor to our overall consumer business. Last financial year 150 per cent of our growth came from the southern states, which in turn leads us to have a manufacturing unit here. We are planning a mobile and LED TV manufacturing unit with an investment of about Rs 400-500 crore in Telangana. We are still in the initial stages of discussion and hoping to close it soon,” said Nidhi Markanday, Director, Business Head – Consumer Durables and IT Accessories, Intex.
Intex launched new refrigerator segment in the city on Tuesday. It introduced three models of single-door direct cooling refrigerator with a capacity range of 170 litres to 190 litres.
The company currently has five manufacturing units in the country – three in Greater Noida, one in Jammu and one in Himachal Pradesh. It is also planning to come up with a new plant in Greater Noida for manufacturing of its recently introduced washing machine segment.
In terms of its mobile phone segment, the company claims that about 75 per cent of its sales happen in the tier-2 and 3 cities.
