Hyderabad: The ISIS suspect from Mailardevpally and three others were under the tight surveillance of the sleuths of the Telangana police for quite some time following suspicions on their online activities.
The man in his mid 20’s along with his wife at Mailardevpally was in contact with persons who were already on the radar of the intelligence agencies for their links with members of the ISIS module busted by the National Investigation Agency with the assistance of the Telangana police in 2016 and 2018.
The intelligence agencies of State police during their surveillance had noticed that the suspect from Mailardevpally was in touch with Abdul Basith’s second wife , who is from Wardha district in Maharashtra and also in touch with three more suspects from the city. The woman is reported to have ‘radicalised’ the suspects from the city and also motivated the suspect from Mailardevpally and his wife towards ISIS and do Hijarath either in Syria or Afghanistan.
According to sources, the intelligence department is said to have learnt of the four suspects planning their own operations. “They were planning to carry out local operations not only in Telangana but also in some other States,” sources said. It was at this point of time, the intelligence wing is learnt to have alerted the NIA.
The group was in touch with each other through social media. A suspect from Shaheennagar, who the agency say was using social media applications in encrypted communication, had also shielded the second wife of Basith when the latter was arrested by the National Investigation Agency in 2018. Recently, the suspect from Shaheennagar had come in contact with the suspect from Mailardevpally.
The intelligence agencies who were keeping a tab on them had realised that they could be aiming ‘something big’ and the NIA was alerted.
All the suspects in the case were sympathising with the Islamic State through social media. It is also learnt, that the second wife of Basith, who is from Wardha, had received money from some sources in Falaknuma area of the old city and the agencies are trying to get more information about it.
