Srisailam: Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday slammed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for making false claims on providing water to Rayalaseema and accused him of showing indifference to the region.
He said Naidu was claiming credit for the projects including Polavaram, Machumarri and others, which were completed by his father and the then Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy during his tenure. Jagan visited Srisailam Dam, as part of his first phase of Rythu Bharosa Yatra and said he would cover Srisaialm and Nandyal Assembly segments in this phase.
Speaking to media after visiting the Srisailam Dam, he said, “Though the water level has been over the specified 844 feet at the dam since August, the State failed to draw water and provide it to farmers of Rayalaseema.”
He maintained that there was no storage facility downstream and the government was indifferent towards the plight of farmers and their irrigation needs in Rayalaseema. He said the Chief Minister even after three years, had not sent any fresh proposals and did not complete the projects which needed very little funds.
Water could not be drawn from Pulichinthala owing to the faulty and anti-farmer policies of the TDP, he said. Due to lack of storage capacity, nearly 85 per cent of the water had gone waste from Prakasam Barrage to Bay of Bengal, which exposed the negligence of the government with respect to the irrigation sector, he said.
He said Naidu with his false claims was trying to shamelessly take credit for the projects conceived by YSR. The Muchumarri Lift Irrigation Project was conceived and executed by YSR, he maintained. Nearly 90 per cent of the works were done during his term. The balance was done by this government and Naidu while inaugurating the project was claiming all credit for the LI project, he said.
