Hyderabad: Being a transgender woman, she had to face lot of challenges, including the trauma of losing parental rights of her youngest son. But tough times were not a deterrent for Jessica Lynn, a transgender woman from California. She was in Hyderabad on Tuesday to deliver a talk called ‘Journey of a transgender woman’ held at International Institute Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad campus.

Lynn spoke about her journey as a transgender woman and shared her life-altering experiences before and after transition. Her lecture covered her transition, sex change and assorted issues, both legal and ethical, involving gender identity, seen through her perspective as an inter-sectional advocate.

Jessica Lynn has undertaken a world tour with the sole aim of creating awareness about transgender community.

“Don’t say gender doesn’t matter to you. Being a transgender, you need to be patient,” Lynn told a packed auditorium of 300 students and faculty members at IIIT, Hyderabad.

The talk was part of IIIT-Hyderabad’s efforts to improve gender relations in the campus, including gender sensitisation. Lynn will address 22 universities in India and her next stop to deliver a similar talk is in Bengaluru.

Transgender activist Monalisa, Professor Abhijit Mithra and others also participated in the talk.
