Hyderabad: The Kukatpally police have on Monday launched a hunt for a gang, suspected to have three persons including a woman, that stole a bag containing 3.5 tolas of gold ornaments from the car of a jewellery businessman on Sunday.

According to the police, Abhishek Agarwal, the proprietor of Yashsree Jewellers in Basheerbagh, had on Sunday gone to Malabar Gold in Chandanagar along with his assistant Ashish in his car. He had a bag with gold ornaments with him.

On the way back, as they were near Basheerbagh, the front tyre on the left side went flat and he had to stop the car in the middle of the road. Abhishek and Ashish got down from the vehicle keeping the bag on the front left seat of the car, and were about to change the tyre, when a woman suddenly came and opened the door before escaping with the bag.

“She got down from a car that was parked few metres away from Abhishek’s car. She was accompanied by a man,” police said, adding that one more person was suspected to be in the other car.

Based on a complaint, police have registered a case and are investigating. Police doubt that the gang could have been following Abhishek from Chandanagar. CCTV footage from the area is also being verified, police said.
