Hyderabad: The Royal Enfield is not a motorbike that needs a movie to prop up its sales, nor of its accessories. It is a cult on its own.

But, in Hyderabad, seat accessory stores are finding a cult movie bringing Enfield owners to them in droves. The trend, according to Santosh, of Santosh Rexine Works opposite Eden Garden on the King Koti road, began with Vijay Deverakonda’s Arjun Reddy. This has now turned into a craze with Shahid Kapoor’s Hindi version of the same, Kabir Singh.

Still wondering why? Those who have watched the movie, or seen the promos at least, will know that the protagonist’s bike has a solid presence in the narrative, right from being the pivot for that riveting background score. Now, what has become a trend in Hyderabad, and most probably wherever Bullet enthusiasts are, is the seat being used by Deverakonda and Kapoor on the bike, which incidentally is the Classic 350 model of the Enfield.

The seat, originally known as the Harley-type slim seat, since it was a vintage model of Harley Davidson that made such seats popular, is now known as the ‘Kabir Singh’ seat. “It was first known as the Arjun Reddy seat, and when Kabir Singh was released, it took on that name,” says Santosh, adding that he sells about 10 to 15 seats every day to individual bike owners, while about 30 to 35 pairs go in wholesale on a daily basis. This is when there are several seat and accessory makers in the Koti area alone.

Some like Sahara Seats and Accessories in Ramkoti have advertised the seat on their website as the Royal Enfield Bullet Kabir Singh/Arjun Reddy seat. The same moniker is used by several dealers on online portals, including Amazon, with the price ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,100. “Some buy the single seat version, while more are going in for the pair. And this is when we have over 200 patterns of seats for the Enfield,” laughs Santosh.

A video, an edited version with scenes from the movie which has the Bullet in them, and where the protagonist is first seen using the bike as a single seat version and later, fitting the rear seat after he finds his lady love, is also making the rounds on Bullet fan pages on social media.
