Hyderabad: Motorists shuttling on the Uppal-LB Nagar route can now pass through Kamineni junction without having to wait for traffic clearance with the much-awaited Kamineni Junction Left Hand Side (LHS) flyover thrown open for traffic on Friday.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 49 crore, the 940-metre flyover was completed in a record 16 months. It was a much-needed facility at the junction as traffic used to move at a snail’s pace in the locality. From now, motorists heading to LB Nagar from Uppal end can take the flyover and reach their destination comfortably and in a shorter time.

The structure will facilitate free flow of traffic from Srisailam, Owaisi junction and Vijayawada ends towards Secunderabad.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao declared the flyover open. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said another Right Hand Side flyover would be constructed parallel to the LHS flyover at the Kamineni junction. This structure will be ready in six months, he said.

To ease traffic congestion and ensure signal-free junctions in the city, the State government had launched the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP). After the four structures, including the Kamineni LHS flyover, next in the offing is the Mindspace flyover that will be declared opened this month-end, Rao said.

Emphasis was being laid on easing traffic congestion in this part of the city. Nearly Rs 450 crore was being spent on developing roads and improving the road network in the LB Nagar constituency, the Minister said.
