Karimnagar: Six persons who had interacted with the Indonesian group, one of whom tested positive for coronavirus, were shifted to the isolation ward in the district headquarters hospital on Wednesday. A Special Branch head constable, who was attached to the Indonesian preachers to monitor their activities, also developed symptoms of coronavirus and has been shifted to Gandhi hospital.
The police and district administration conducted checks on Ahmadia masjid near the collectorate office where the group of 10 Indonesian preachers had stayed during their visit to the district. They arrived in Karimnagar on March 14.
One Town police led by CI Vijay Kumar carried out the checks and came across six persons who had interacted with the Indonesian group. In all, at least 80 persons are said to have interacted with the group and efforts are on by the district administration to get details of these people, sources said.
It may be recalled that the Indonesian group went to government hospital for health certificate on the instructions of police on Monday, and doctors shifted them to Gandhi hospital since one of them was suffering from cough, cold and fever. A 58-year-old Indonesian preacher was found to be Covid-19 positive in Gandhi Hospital on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the district administration is trying to set up more isolation wards for suspected Covid-19 patients, and several colleges are being considered to house these wards.
80 passengers travelled with Indonesian infected with corona
Hyderabad: Railway officials said 80 passengers travelled in the AP Sampark Kranti Express with a person belonging to Indonesia, who had tested positive for Covid-19.
According to South Central Railway officials, the Indonesian national had boarded AP Sampark Kranti Express at Hazrat Nizamuddin as part of a group in S9 sleeper coach on March 13 and reached Ramagundam station on March 14.
“Around 80 passengers along with TCs, TTEs and housekeeping travelled in the train from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Tirupati on March 13 and 14 and all the details of those who had contact with the Indonesian passenger have been submitted to State Health authorities,” officials said.
Soon after the Indonesian tested positive for coronavirus, the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Telangana asked Deputy Chief Commercial Manager, Secunderabad, to furnish the details of the passenger in full for contact tracing of the infected Covid-19 case. Accordingly, railway authorities submitted the contact details.
“We are also testing railway staff and housekeeping who had contact with the Indonesian group on board during the travel,” the official added.
