Karimnagar: Stranded fishermen rescued after five hours rescue operation

Fifteen persons from Challur ventured into the river for fishing around 3 pm on Sunday. While 12 of them came back by evening, three others were stranded in the middle due to heavy flow in the river.

Karimnagar: Three fishermen, who were stranded in Manair river near Challur of Veenavanka mandal on Sunday, were rescued after a five-hour struggle by rescue teams.

Fifteen persons from Challur ventured into the river for fishing around 3 pm on Sunday. While 12 of them came back by evening, three others Neduri Thirupati (25), Neduri Srinivas (27) and Neduri Ravi (30) were stranded in the middle due to heavy flow in the river.

After coming to know about the incident, police, revenue, fire department and volunteers rushed the spot and began rescue operation. Commissioner of Police, VB Kamalasan Reddy sent a rescue team comprising of professional swimmers, boats to the spot from Karimnagar.

Rescue operation was continued by arranging generators and dragger lights.

Professional swimmers got into gushing water flow and first saved Thirupathi and Srinivas. After hearing the screaming for help from Ravi, who was clutching a branch of a tree, the rescue team managed to approach him after a severe struggle. He was also brought back at around 10.15 pm.

Kamalasan Reddy appreciated members of rescue team and volunteers for rescuing fishermen by putting their lives at risk.
