Hyderabad: Baseball Association of Telangana is going to organise the 28th Junior National Baseball Championship for boys and girls at Ambedkar Stadium in Karimnagar from March 29 to April 2.

“A total of around 23 to 25 State teams are taking part in the tournament,” said Challa Harishankar, Vice President, Baseball Association of Telangana. The decision to organise the tournament in Karimnagar was taken as Hyderabad city is unavailable to conduct the tournament owing to exam schedule.

“This is a great opportunity to develop baseball in the State. Our association is trying to give adequate chances to players from each district,” said Krishna, Treasurer of the association.

Talking about the controversy surrounding the affiliation of baseball body in Telangana, Shweta, Secretary of Baseball Association of Telangana said she is a permanent resident of Telangana and added that the baseball team is doing well and finished fourth in the junior nationals recently and the senior team too had qualified for the recent national games. “We are the only recognised baseball body in Telangana and are focused on expanding the game across the State. Our affiliation was officiallyconfirmed by national federation as well,” Shweta added.
