Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Marking the occasion of auspicious Kartheeka Masam, devotees of Lord Hanuman set out on a ‘maha padayatra’ or walkathon from various parts of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district to Sri Siddi Hanuman temple located at Tonkini village in Sirpur (T) mandal on Tuesday. It is the 18th walkathon by the devotees, according to locals.
Over 20,000 devotees belonging to Kaghaznagar, Asifabad, Koutala, Bejjur, Penchikalpet, Dahgaon mandals and other parts of the district made a beeline to the temple and thronged it by forming serpentine queue lines from early morning till evening. They had holy dip in Wardha river flowing by the temple shrine.
Sirpur (T) MLA K Koneru Konappa, the Assembly constituency’s Congress in-charge Dr P Harish Rao and his counterpart of BJP Dr K Srinivas visited the shrine and offered special prayers. They were received by temple priests Mohan Rao and Venkanna. In the supervison of Additional SP YVS Sudheendra and DSP Swamy, around 100 police personnel including seven Sub-Inspectors were deployed at the temple to avoid any untoward incidents during the festive time.
Voluntary organisations distributed fruits, sachets of drinking water and buttermilk to the devotees on their way to the temple. Participants shopped toys for children and dined in the eateries. Drinking water facilities, shades and barricades were arranged at the temple for smooth conduct of the event.
