Hyderabad: Telangana Congress received a big jolt on Thursday with Patolla Karthik Reddy, a member of the party’s campaign committee, resigning from his post. His resignation came in the wake of his being denied a party ticket to contest from Rajendranagar constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Karthik Reddy, son of former Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, said he had been working hard for the party over the past few years in the constituency and allocation of the constituency to TDP by the Congress undermined all the hard work. “The TDP candidate is guaranteed to lose the elections. Ask anyone in the constituency and they will tell you that Congress will win from here. If Mahakutami wants to win from here, then Congress must field its candidate from here. It does not matter if it is me or someone else but it must be a Congress candidate,” he said.
Pointing out that on Wednesday, after the TDP announced its candidate Ganesh Gupta, it was TRS cadres who celebrated in the villages, Karthik Reddy wanted to know why such a reaction would come from the TRS. “It is because that party had given up hopes on this constituency but by fielding TDP here, Congress has ensured TRS victory in the coming elections,” he remarked.
Karthik Reddy also said it was not just him who resigned from the Congress protesting the party’s decision to give the seat to the TDP. Mandal presidents, ZPTCs and MPPs from Congress also resigned. “It is now up to Telangana Congress president to either ensure our party contests from here or accept our resignations,” he said.
He also said State Congress leaders were briefed several times about the situation in Rajendranagar but they completely ignored the warnings. Karthik Reddy’s mother Sabitha Indra Reddy has been nominated as Congress candidate from Maheswaram constituency.
