The RX 100 hero is on a high dosage of alcohol, of late, not that he has missed out a few hits on silver screen, but he has so much to cheer about as his upcoming movie 90ML which will hit the screens on December 6. The movie is about the alcohol but the hero doesn’t become a alcoholic.
Kartikeya Gummakonda says the character he plays has to be administered a dosage of alcohol as medicine since he suffers from a rare disorder since his childhood. And the quantity becomes 90ML as he turns an adult.
“How a friend treats me when she comes to know that I am being administered 90ML dosage daily. And how colleagues in workplace treat me when they come to know that I am suffering from a rare disease? We showed it in an entertaining way. This is a different concept and very exciting one,” says Kartikeya speaking to Hyderabad Today.
Kartikeya, who is a fitness freak, never misses out daily sessions in gym. But it’s not that he is a complete teetotaller. “I do have alcohol, but not daily. Social gatherings, success parties and meetings with my friends have become customary in my life, so I don’t say no when it comes to raising a toast,” he smiles.
His last outing Guna 369 in which Kartikeya was portrayed as a serious village youth, had many expectations from the hero. “No one can judge whether a movie would work out or not. Even when my first movie RX100 was released, I never expected that critics would rave about it. I really believed in Guna 369. Somehow, it did not reach the expectations of the audience. It’s not a complete failure though. People who have watched the movie liked the principal character. Even when it got released on Netflix, I get to read good comments and positive feedback. Yeah, it has a few setbacks. The first half’s narration is a bit sluggish. The release date was a problem too. As far as Guna is concerned I don’t feel that the result was bad as such,” he shares.
Breaking the industry dictum and stereotypes, Kartikeya deviated from norm when he accepted to play the negative character in Natural Star Nani’s Gang Leader which has received much praise. It was a calculative move from the hero when he is eagerly waiting for a break. “Gang Leader has a wider reach since Nani was on board. Even family audiences would love to watch Gang Leader whereas RX100 had restricted moviegoers because of the storyline. Gang Leader is surely helping me for my next movie,” he adds.
