Hyderabad: Setting a fresh agenda for the Irrigation Department tasked with the implementation of key irrigation projects for utilising the water resources available in Godavari and Krishna basins, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday wanted the pace of works on the Kaleshwaram project to be stepped up further.

Returning to his official protocols as part of his second innings as the helmsman of the State government, he had a seven-hour long marathon review on the implementation of the mega irrigation projects, thus demonstrating the priority given by him to the irrigation sector.
Expressing his displeasure over the tardy progress of works in some of the projects, including Sitarama, Devadula and Sriramsagar (SRSP) rejuvenation scheme, he put the officials concerned on notice stating that the needless delays in the implementation of works will be viewed seriously.

Two-day schedule

The Chief Minister said that all the projects taken up in the State by the government should be completed within next two years, so as to extend irrigation to one crore acres which is the avowed goal of the State government. Every project should be put on fast track, he said asking the officials to ensure payment of compensation for the lands already acquired from the farmers for implementation of projects. He directed the Finance Department to release funds required for payment of compensation.

Two LI schemes
He also asked the irrigation officials to prepare the proposals for the construction of two lift irrigation schemes on Singur project to extend irrigation to one lakh acres each in Naryankhed and Zaheerabad Assembly constituencies.

The Chief Minister wanted them to complete works on Nagamadugu project and steps for strengthening Koulas Nala in Jukkal Assembly constituency. He also directed irrigation officials to talk to the irrigation officials of Maharashtra to clear hurdles for speeding up works on Lendi project.
