Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Tuesday instructed the State power distribution companies (Discoms) to divide the electricity bills covering the entire lockdown period month-wise to save the consumers from paying inflated bills.

Domestic consumers have been demanding for month-wise bills stating that billing based on meter reading of the entire period moved them upwards into the next bracket in the slab system, resulting in highly inflated bills.

“We will reduce the burden on the common man by segregating the entire bill month-wise so that they will be saved from paying additional amounts. I will immediately order the Discoms to do so,” he said, replying to the short discussion on “Achievements of Power Sector in Telangana State”, the proposed new Electricity Amendment Bill, and the fire mishap in Srisailam Hydro power unit,” in the State Assembly here.

Paying tributes to those who lost their lives in the Srisailam Left Bank Hydro Electric Station fire accident on August 20, the Chief Minister said the nine people sacrificed their lives to save the unit from further damage. “Their sacrifice was ultimate and I have instructed the Energy Minister to help the bereaved families in all aspects. A CID inquiry has been ordered and the department is also looking into the reasons for the accident,” he said.

Coming down heavily on the Congress for claiming that they brought in the revolutionary changes in the field of electricity and not by the TRS government, Chief Minister said successive governments in the erstwhile State had failed to add to the installed capacity pushing the State into the dark ages.

“I think the Congress has a dilemma in accepting that. They are also confused on the issue of VROs, whether to support the government or not,” he said, replying to CLP Leader Bhatti Vikramarka’s comments.

Vikramarka had earlier remarked that the TRS government had only used the power generation stations built by Congress to augment power generation and had added only two units, Bhadradri and Yadadri to the list.

When the Congress leader said Chandrashekhar Rao was also a part of the TDP government that did injustice to Telangana, the Chief Minister shot back saying that was the reason why he took up the “Jai Telangana” flag and came out of that government. “I was in that government. that made me realise what is happening to Telangana,” he said.
