Khammam: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao not only achieved Statehood for Telangana but also ensured respect for its people and their culture, Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar said on Wednesday.
Chandrashekhar Rao led the Statehood movement without giving any scope for violence or bloodshed and with just MPs in Lok Sabha, he succeeded in bringing pressure on the Centre to carve out Telangana, fulfilling the decades old desire of the people, he said.
Ajay Kumar along with MLA Vanama Venkateshwar Rao laid the foundation stone for Telangana Martyrs Memorial at Kothagudem. It was necessary to remember numerous martyrs and their sacrifices made for the cause of Telangana statehood, he said.
The minister noted that people in erstwhile Khammam, especially Kothagudem people played a key role supporting the Telangana movement. The SCCL workers and their families actively took part in the movement.
The District Library Chairman Dindigala Rajender who was district TRS president worked a lot for the statehood cause and MLA Vanama Venkateswar Rao though he was in Congress in the past went to jail fighting for Telangana cause, Ajay Kumar said recalling the past.
Covid virology lab inaugurated at District Hospital
Ajay Kumar has inaugurated Covid Virology Lab at Kothagudem District Hospital, first one to be set up in erstwhile Khammam district. Swab samples of suspected cases from all over Khammam and Kothagudem districts would be brought here for testing.
Steps would be taken up to set up the virology labs in Khammam and other districts also, he said adding ‘What Telangana thinks today, the entire country thinks tomorrow. Many states were now emulating the developmental and welfare programmes being implemented by the TRS government’.
The minister stated adding gone were the days when states like West Bengal used to be role models. The Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao has become a role model and many governments in the country emulate programmes and schemes he introduced, Ajay Kumar said.
