Key Maoist couple from Andhra Pradesh held

Hyderabad: A key Maoist leader Kiran Kumar alias Kiran Dada and his wife Narmada from Andhra Pradesh were arrested by the Maharashtra police.

Kiran is a member of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) and also in-charge of Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, which is part of Dandakaranya region. The couple, working in Chhattisgarh, carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh each, sources said.

Fifty-seven-year-old Kiran, who wears spectacles, was a native of Vijayawada. He was also the State committee member and looks after Prabhat magazine, a political organ of Maoist’s DKSZC apart from looking after propaganda unit, press and education. Sources said that he was also technologically sound.

Kiran’s wife Narmada alias Aluri Krishna Kumari alias Sujathakka was a native of Gudivada in Krishna district. She was underground for the last 22 years.

According to sources, Kiran was allegedly involved in the killing of at least 16 people, including 15 security personnel in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by Maoists in Gadchiroli district on May 1.
