Hyderabad: Within 24 hours of the successful wet run of the first pumping unit of Package 6 of the Kaleshwaram Lift irrigation Scheme (KLIS), its second pumping unit also accomplished the critical feat on Thursday, bringing cheer not only to project engineers and staff, but also to the farming community that pinned high hopes on the mega irrigation project.
After performing the puja at the pumping station, Chief Secretary SK Joshi (who was involved in the progress of its works at every stage in the capacity of Principal Secretary of Irrigation before his elevation) switched on the second pumping unit of the 124.4-MW capacity putting it to operation at 3.30 pm.
The wet run of five more pumping units of the same capacity, scheduled for the next 15 days, will mark the completion of the crucial Package 6 of the project. Package 8 of KLIS is also set to go in for the wet runs of five 139-MW pumping units that are of higher capacity than the pumping units at Package 6. The wet run in Package 8 is likely to take place in the first half of June, officials said.
