Hyderabad: From being known as a quiet, clustered human settlement, the sleepy village of Kollur has now acquired the moniker of India’s biggest and prestigious housing project.
In a span of about two years, Kollur in Ramchandrapuram mandal has transformed into a hub of urban community as the mega housing project of constructing 15,660 double bedroom houses is nearing completion. Each house is being constructed in an area of 560 square feet. Spread over 125 acres, the project was launched in February 2018 and will be ready by March 2020. Given the mammoth size of the project, already officials, students, internees and others are making a beeline to the project site to study different aspects.
It is being executed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Telangana Housing Department in association with DEC Infrastructure and Projects (India) Private Limited. The project is being taken up at a cost of Rs1,350 crore. While about Rs1,230 crore is earmarked for construction of the houses, the rest is for development of infrastructure. The 15,660 double bedroom houses are being constructed under the State Government’s Dignity Housing programme. These units are being constructed in 117 blocks and these blocks have been designed in four different models, which appear like ‘O’, ‘U’, ‘L’ and linear from an aerial view.
The idea was to ensure sufficient ventilation, lighting and aesthetics. More importantly, all these structures are earthquake resistant, says D.E.C Infrastructure and Projects (India) Private Limited Chairman and Managing Director Anirudh Gupta. “All this was possible with the support of all stakeholders from other departments and timely funding by the State government,” Gupta adds. Each block is developed as an RCC framed structure with stilt plus nine, stilt plus 10 floors and stilt plus 11 floors.
It is all not just towering structures and houses. The entire place is in fact undergoing metamorphosis with many facilities being worked out as part of social infrastructure. All amenities and infrastructure like water, electricity, drainage, roads, shopping malls, parks, nursing home, school, library, religious places of worship, Police outpost, fire station, bus station, parking facility in each block and watchman room in each block etc are being developed in the project.
And for the owners, the site is well connected with the Outer Ring Road and it is going to offer lot of facilities amidst a serene ambience. To ensure quality in the works, a quality check is being done by a third party on different parameters, including material, paints and even transparency in funding.
Currently, laying of colony roads, minor brick works, exterior painting and other petty works are under progress. The deadline fixed for completion of works is March 2020 and they will be completed as per schedule, he adds.
