Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti’s Koneru Konappa broke the jinx by becoming MLA from Sirpur (T) Assembly constituency thrice in a row. He became legislator for a record three times. No other candidate achieved this feat so far. Most of them were elected twice from this segment which was formed in 1957.
Konappa registered a massive victory by achieving a thumping margin of 24,036 votes against Dr Palvai Harish Rao, fielded by the Congress in elections. He secured 83,088 votes out of the total 1,64,073 votes of Sirpur (T) segment. The 63-year old had become a legislator from this segment by contesting on the ticket of Congress in 2004 elections for the first time.
He, however, lost to Kaveti Sammaiah of TRS in 2009 polls. In 2014, Konappa won on BSP ticket and later shifted his loyalty to the TRS. Only KV Narayana Rao, KV Keshava Rao and Palvai Purshottam Rao had become MLAs twice from this constituency so far.
Konappa had also served as ZPTC member and Mandal Parishad president of Kaghaznagar mandal. “I will develop Sirpur (T) constituency on many facets for consecutively electing me thrice. I am always indebted to electors, workers and cadres of the TRS for playing a vital role in my victory. I will be accessible to the public for the next five years and will leave no stone unturned to improve road infrastructure, agriculture, education and health sectors of the backward segment,” Konappa told ‘Telangana Today.’
