Kothagudem: Police recover 8mm rifle, ammunition and IED

During search operations in the forests, the police spotted a team of Maoists and the police shouted at them asking them to surrender to the police

Kothagudem: The police have recovered an 8mm rifle along with eight rounds of ammunition and other material following an exchange fire in the forests of Malletogu in Manugur mandal in the district on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt said on Thursday.

In a statement here, he said during search operations in the forests, the police spotted a team of Maoists and the police shouted at them asking them to surrender to the police. But the naxals opened fire at the police who retaliated.

A police constable suffered injury in the exchange of fire. Seven detonators, one improvised explosive device (IED), 10 kits, one medicine bag, cooking material, solar panels, electronic equipment, two mobile phone and revolutionary literature were recovered from the spot, the SP said.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that a police constable engaged in search operations in the forests of Manugur suffered a snake bite and was shifted to hospital for treatment. He is said to be safe.
